Planetary mills are suitable for grinding hard, medium-hard, soft, brittle, tough and moist materials. The breakdown of the materials takes place primarily through the impact that occurs when the grinding balls rotate at high speed in one direction and the grinding cup in the other direction. The grinding may have taken place dry, in a suspension or more inert gas. In addition to grinding, it can be advantageously used to mix and homogenize emulsions and pastes for mechanical alloying or for activation in materials research.
