When working with microtiter or deep well plates, the risk of evaporation and contamination is higher.

By placing microtiter or deep well plates in the box, evaporation is reduced or even completely eliminated. The box minimizes evaporation effectively, even in shaking incubators without a humidity system. Combined with a humidity system, evaporation is entirely prevented—even with sample volumes as small as a single drop (in a 96-well plate with round wells filled with 150 µL per well, evaporation is less than 0.3% after 24 hours).

The box also helps prevent contamination by creating a sterile environment. For cell culture applications, we recommend autoclaving the box and using a disposable filter over the ventilation holes in the lid. For microbial applications, this is not necessary—the physical barrier against direct exposure to airflow in the shaking incubator is sufficient.

The box fits all our incubation shakers, from one unit in Ecotron and Minitron to up to three in the Multitron series. Each box holds up to 18 microtiter or 12 deep well plates.
It can be placed on an adhesive mat (up to 150 rpm) or on a universal tray (up to 400 rpm).
