Evaporation-Reducing Box for Culture Plates

This stainless-steel box minimizes or even completely eliminates evaporation from microtiter or deep-well plates during incubation. It effectively reduces evaporation even in shaking incubators without a humidity control system.

When used together with a humidity system, evaporation can be fully eliminated — even when liquid volumes are smaller than a single droplet. For example, in a 96-well plate with round wells filled with 150 µL per well, evaporation is less than 0.3% after 24 hours.

The box also helps prevent contamination in culture plates by providing a protected, sterile environment.

For cell culture applications, we recommend autoclaving the box and covering the ventilation holes in the lid with a disposable filter. For microbial applications, this is not necessary — the physical protection against direct air flow in the shaking incubator is sufficient.

The box is compatible with all Infors incubator shakers, from a single Minitron up to three units in the Multitron family. Each box holds up to 18 microtiter plates or 12 deep-well plates.

The box can be placed on an adhesive mat (up to 150 rpm) or on a universal shaking tray (up to 400 rpm).
