UVP UV, White & Blue Light Transilluminators
UV transilluminators provide even, powerful illumination.
UV Transilluminators for UV Fluorescent Stains
UV transilluminators provide even and bright illumination. The exclusive application of high-quality filter glass ensures excellent documentation results with minimal background signal. The high uniformity of illumination enables reliable quantification of electrophoretically separated fluorescent samples.
UVP Transilluminators are equipped with ultraviolet blocking shields to protect users from UV radiation. The base is coated with high-quality, scratch-resistant powder paint. Models include a stainless steel top assembly or powder-coated finish.
Product Information
- Filter sizes from 15 cm x 15 cm up to 25 cm x 26 cm or 20 cm x 40 cm
- Superior uniform illumination
- High-quality filter glass for low background
- Wide selection of standard and high-performance models
UVP Transilluminators
The compact models of UVP Transilluminators include economical transilluminators with single-intensity and variable-intensity options, equipped with 8-watt 302 nm UV tubes.
The variable intensity models offer:
- High setting allows UV excitation of fluorophores on gels for routine imaging. It also excites gels with low sample concentration.
- Medium intensity is excellent for viewing and quick single-band cutting.
- Low setting is used for gel positioning and preparation, multi-band cutting, and focusing for imaging.
For users who prefer the option of both 302 nm UV and 365 nm UV, the benchUV ML models are ideal. These models feature a single-intensity setting and 8-watt UV lamps at 302 nm and 365 nm. Available filter sizes are 20 cm x 20 cm or 21 cm x 26 cm.
Transilluminators with Exceptional Uniform Illumination
The UVP FirstLight Transilluminator represents a unique, highly uniform 302 nm UV excitation source for quantitative fluorescent imaging across a wide range of applications.
- Produces <5% coefficient of variation (CV) across the entire filter area
- Exceptionally even, edge-to-edge illumination
- Enables accurate gel-to-gel comparison
- Ensures uniform lighting across the imaging surface, resulting in high-quality images
- Applications range from documentation and analysis of DNA and protein gels
The transilluminator provides accurate and reproducible RNA, DNA, and protein results. It emits 302 nm UV excitation, and combined with a patented phosphor coating configuration, it generates exceptionally uniform UV illumination across each band and lane. Multiple gels can be placed on the surface to maintain uniformity for every gel.
High-Performance UV Transilluminators
All high-performance UVP transilluminators feature exclusive 25-watt UV tubes, delivering a total of 100 watts of bright UV illumination.
- Provides high UV power and intensity, no light flicker, quick lamp startup, and reduced power consumption
- Stainless steel frame for easy cleaning
- Backlit UV illumination is further enhanced with long-life filters and a uniform screen
- The UV-blocking shield, included with every transilluminator, is adjustable for access to the filter surface
Blue Light Transilluminators for Fluorescent Stains
Blue light transilluminators are an attractive alternative to UV transilluminators, as they eliminate the risk of sample damage during illumination. This is crucial when samples need further processing after gel documentation. Users benefit as there is no risk of UV exposure. Blue light excitation is suitable for fluorescent dyes for nucleic acid or protein stains with excitation wavelengths around 470 nm. Compatible stains include:
SYBR Green, GelGreen, SYBR Safe, SYBR Gold, SYPRO Ruby, and GFP stains.
The blue light illumination UVP Visi-Blue Transilluminator is available as a compact 8-watt model, with a size similar to benchtop UV transilluminators. The amber protective cover blocks blue light transmission and allows visualization of most samples above 500 nm.
UV-to-Blue Converter Plates
As an alternative to a blue light transilluminator, a converter plate can be placed on top of a UV transilluminator to convert UV light to blue light. Three different sizes of Visi-Blue converter plates are available. When used with a camera system, a yellow camera filter must be applied.
White/UV Transilluminators
The UVP Visi-White transilluminator is also available in a dual-use version: UV table and white light table. The UVP UV/White Transilluminator TMW-20 has a 20 cm x 20 cm filter size for UV fluorescent samples and an additional 20 cm x 20 cm filter size for white light transillumination. The white light table can be used for documenting visible stained samples, such as silver or Coomassie Blue-stained gels, as well as for X-ray images. This transilluminator cannot be integrated into a GelStudio or ChemStudio darkroom due to its geometry.
UV-to-White Light Converter
As an alternative to using a white light table, a conversion plate can be placed on top of a UV transilluminator. This converts UV light to visible light, expanding the application range of all UV tables to visualize colorimetric stains in a cost-effective way.
White Light Table UVP Visi-White Transilluminator
For documentation of only visible stained samples without the need for UV light, the white light transilluminator UVP Visi-White Transilluminator TW-26 is the ideal choice. It comes with a filter size of 21 cm x 26 cm. The exceptionally uniform illumination provides bright sample images.
