Research – Cooling Rate Effects on MZW of Glycerol

The latest Scientific Feed from Technobis Crystallisation Systems on Optimizing glycerol crystallization with Crystal16.

At Berner Lab, we’re always eager to highlight innovative science in the Nordics and beyond. We are pleased to share another publication from our trusty supplier Technobis.

OPTIMIZING GLYCEROL CRYSTALLIZATION WITH CRYSTAL16

A fascinating new study, Effect of Cooling Rate on Metastable Zone Width of Glycerol, highlights exactly this – using the Technobis Crystal16 to investigate how cooling rates and feedstock purity impact crystallization.

Understanding the Process

Using the Crystal16, researchers analyzed glycerol derived from both refined sunflower oil and unrefined compressed oil. By continuously monitoring turbidity, they were able to determine the Metastable Zone Width (MZW) and induction time across various cooling rates.

Key Insights

The findings reveal that feedstock purity plays a major role in crystallization behavior. While refined glycerol showed stable MZW results, unrefined glycerol displayed irregular behavior due to impurities. These results provide valuable guidance for optimizing industrial purification processes.

We are proud to offer instruments like the Crystal16 that enable such detailed solubility and crystallization research.
