Flame retardants, phthalates, health and environmental risks.

Flame retardants, such as PBDEs, are abundant in our modern society, found in everything from clothing and carpets to sofas and computers. Flame retardants have bioaccumulative negative health effects and are linked to hormone disruption, infertility, reduced IQ, birth defects, and cancer. Moreover, flame retardants persist in the environment, in water and soil, enter the food chain, and are now global persistent organic pollutants (POPs).

Phthalates and plasticizers are found in plastics and rubber, commonly present in vinyl/PVC flooring, garden hoses, toys (especially older ones), beach balls, clothing prints, wallpapers, electrical cables, gym balls, construction materials, exercise mats, cosmetics, and paint. Phthalates are suspected to be endocrine disruptors, and recent research suggests possible links between phthalates and allergy-related diseases. Within the EU, the use of the most dangerous phthalates is regulated by bans or restrictions. Other phthalates are not restricted by legislation. Additionally, older products, or those manufactured outside the EU, may still contain harmful phthalates.

We also offer various types of reference materials in terms of both form and content. See the CPA catalog below for organic reference materials. When it comes to certified solutions for AA, ICP, or IC, we collaborate with CPAchem. They offer high-quality solutions and short lead times on custom solutions, with both production and warehousing in Europe.

For organic compounds in solid form or solution, our supplier CPA Chem offers an almost complete range of products. If you prefer these contaminants in a specific matrix, such as water, soil, or plant material, we use several databases to find the material that best meets your needs.
